Toasty Feet

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

I have found what I believe to be a winning footwear combination for winter diving. After most low temperatures dives my feet are like blocks of ice. It takes hours for them to thaw out. Now when I say low temperatures I am talking about the kind of water that gives you a near permanent ice cream headache. :) (32-36° F 1-3° C).

Saturday Night Stripping!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

I am sure when you saw the title of this post you thought I was posting some different kind of material. Sorry to disappoint :)

I have spent the last few years reading the questions, advice, adventure and misadventure of people stripping their aluminum tanks down. I thought it was finally time to give it a try.

Sunday at Humber Bay

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day and the whole Liquid team actually got out to Humber Bay to meet and dive. As the team arrived another group was just leaving and we were able to squeeze into the parking spaces in front of the gate. To our surprise we had our own professional photographer. Warren Lo was on hand shooting “divers” and there we were.

DIY Goodman Handle

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

A post on my favorite message board, OntarioDiving.com prompted me to write this entry on my home made goodman handle. I own an OMS Phantom, 10W HID light. The light came with a soft goodman handle that the head clips into and it SUCKS! Just look at that flimsy thing.

Details in Dusty Papers

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

While I was in a Save Ontario Shipwrecks board meeting last weekend, my fellow SOS Hamilton members were in Ottawa at the National Archives. They were having just as much fun sifting through dusty boxes in search of shipwrecks. Now you might think that in a dusty box is not the best place to look for a shipwreck. After all, think of how big the box would have to be to look inside and not see a shipwreck! As it turns out, many wreck finds start or end with archival searches.

The team at the archives reported on two wrecks that they found information for. One is the barge “Pitts No. 4” Official No 197234 removed from Toronto Harbour and scuttled April 15 1971. The other is the yacht “Patricia” also scuttled on June 17 1965.

Still Diving, Keeping Skills Sharp

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

While none of the team officially have an off season. Things certainly slow down in winter with the holidays, weather issues and equipment maintenance. When we can get in the water, conditions are not always ideal to perform surveys. We end up tweaking gear configurations, trying new toys and all importantly we practice skills and bouyancy.
